Linksys AE1000 wireless adapter: just forget it
The Cisco Linksys AE1000 "High Performance Wireless-N USB Adapter" does not even install neither in Windows 7 nor Windows Vista. The setup program, no matter what you do trying to follow the "instructions" on the screen, does not go beyond the screenshot shown here. The "wireless connection manager", mentioned here, does not exist in Windows 7, it's a thing of the past, so at this point of installing this adapter the situation turns hopeless. Trust me, I've tried everything conceivable. Long story short: product returned for a full refund.
There are three more reasons for disappointment: 1) the package has the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo, acting as a bait, 2) the only "help" available in the user guide is "Double-click your CD-ROM drive" (in my computer) and then, on page 4, "After you have installed the Adapter" (!) ... and 3) other unsuspecting customers were equally disappointed. Whatever happened to quality assurance?!

Same comment. . . .I tried three new AE1000's with similar results. However a refurbished AE1000 worked flawlessly in both Vista and Win7 sp-1 computers. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteWith the new AE100's I accomplished the following several times over and over: Downloaded latest drivers; disabled virus and firewall protection; uninstalled AE1000 adapter; ran regedit to scrub any Linksys/Cisco software, checked E2000 router settings and rebooted it; and tried the factory disk setup. Adapter was always recognized as working and the wireless network discovered, but no matter what I tried, the new AE1000's didn't couldn't connect and the blue adapter light just stayed on steady. . . .And after any failed attempt, if I just plugged in the refurbished AE1000, it would automatically connect to the network within just a few seconds. Returned all three new adapter, have ordered another refurb adapter, and crossed my fingers
Well, this comment sounds to me like written by someone from the alluded company...
